Are you kidding me? The proposal from staff and clucked at approvingly by 4 out of 5 commissioners is to increase the budget by 3%. I did receive a small concession - the staff will prepare a budget that takes no budget increase.

Last year I went for a reduction of $1 million in the budget. I'll try this year as well since the same cuts are there to be made. Think I'll get anywhere? (see first sentence)

I'll soon be posting a blog on economic indicators showing why taxes should NOT be increase. Stay tuned.

Has there been any thought to reducing the budget and the levy rate since these projects no longer have to be funded locally?

A lack of connectivity is the downfall of a transportation system. The lack of connections puts undue stress of those streets and intersections which do connect. The East Bench area is a poster child for this problem. Shamrock would have helped alleviate Cloverdale and 5 Mile Rd. The disjointed streets which do connect then make it nearly impossible to put a good working signal system in place with pedestrian connections...look at Horseshoe Bend...hardly any of the streets are in alignment with each other. This region is not ready to make tough decisions but instead will continue to placate and kick the can down the road. Sara...best of luck on this issue.

Bingo. It does make it hard to have connectivity when there are no connections. Shamrock is the perfect example.

The images from the cameras are not taped so one couldn't go back and track someone down. The cameras are not used to remotely ticket red light runners or speeders like they do in other places. Having the cameras track the traffic flow allows for instant modification (where the controllers are updated and they will all get there fairly soon) of traffic signalization to get rid of traffic jams.

All in all, a good balance I think.

Am interested in how you feel about such use of the cameras C. Baker.

As a "govt out of my business" type of person, I would expect you oppose big brother 'always' watching the citizens.

Actually, so far that seems to be something the others will accept. When I brought up that there was an election and the possibility of new commissioners and that those new commissioners should be involved, they agreed.

You will get about as far holding off until after the elections as my bill before the legislature got (the one requiring that ACHD be neutral in its ballot language). The good ole boys and girls network is in effect and functions very well. Why should they wait and risk diluting their say in the matter?
